What do veneers look like?
Veneers are tooth-like, thin shells that will sit on the natural teeth of the patient. Most people find themselves opting for porcelain or ceramic veneers when they have cracked, chipped or broken teeth. Resting over the damaged teeth, veneers can restore and improve your natural smile.
With most cosmetic dental practices, you will be involved in a dental consultation that will allow you to pick the shade, size and purpose of your veneer. Your request will then be submitted to and then designed in a dental laboratory.
When choosing your shade, it is incredibly important that you opt for a shade that you are happy with! Veneers are stain-resistant and cannot be whitened with teeth whitening products. This means that your natural teeth surrounding dental veneers can appear discolored compared to the shade of the veneer or vice versa.
Ensure that your dentist knows exactly what your objectives are with veneers so you can achieve the beautiful smile that you’re paying for.
How are veneers attached?
First, each individual tooth needs to be shaven down and re-shaped to prepare it for the surgery . This is done by scoring and scraping the existing tooth enamel on each tooth. Don’t worry, this is often done under local anaesthetic. However, with the enamel gone, this means that eventually the composite resin of veneers will need to be restored after a period of time, as the original teeth will no longer be under protection. You may need to seek regular dental care to ensure the gum tissue and pulp hasn’t become affected by the veneer.
To attach the ceramic shell veneer, it is then bonded to the tooth using a special cement glue. This needs to be done to every individual tooth in order to achieve a flawless smile, and each individual veneer can set you back thousands.
Veneers do not look like or are they fitted in the same way as dental crowns. Crowns are used to encase the entire tooth with material whereas veneers simply only cover the front of the tooth.
It is important to remember that once this treatment has been performed, there is no going back. The cosmetic dentist will sand down the shape of the teeth to create a structure for the veneer to clip onto.
The dental veneers surgery can last anywhere between an hour and a half to two and a half hours long. Waiting for your dental cement to set (the material used to keep the veneer attached to the tooth) can take longer from patient to patient.
How much do veneers cost?
Veneers cost between $1,000 and $3,000 per tooth. The average cost of veneers do vary depending on where you live, the type of veneer (porcelain veneers price for example are higher than composite), how many you require and the professional you visit so it’s worth doing your research.

- instasmile clip-on veneers offer removable, temporary veneers that are affordable and durable.
- instasmile offers an additional solution that veneers can’t offer, by covering multiple missing teeth Our customer Chris was considering porcelain veneers:
“I went on the computer to look at traditional veneers and found that they were costing between $10,000 and $15,000 which is, again, between probably 12,000 and 17,000 pounds, depending on which part of the pond you live, and that was just not going to work. Thank goodness among the advertisements among veneers was instasmile, and I was finding out for a fraction of the cost I would easily get a great smile where people would pay attention to my mouth, not because of how terrible it looked and focus only on my teeth, but say wow, what a great smile I have, and be able to focus on what I was saying. As a salesman this is really important to me.”
